Project “XForms – Product development through the application of a production process with a high degree of sustainability for the advanced composite materials sector”

The XForms project involved the study and development of an innovative production process in the composite materials sector, with a high degree of industrial sustainability with reference to the state of the art of current production processes.

The chosen product is the longboard object, which is made through the new production process and will be characterized by a high standard of energy sustainability and a much lower environmental impact than the current composite production chain.

The advantages of the project are summarized in:

  1. optimization of the use of the fiber, positioned in the main directions of effort that the
    product is assigned to support or simply positioned by tracing the geometries
    imported from the modeling phase. Efficient use of fiber results in a decrease
    of the weight of the component and therefore of the raw material constituting the piece;
  2. zero waste of virgin raw materials;
  3. significant reduction in rolling times and costs since the material will no longer have to
    be stratified by the operator on the mold, indeed, its thickness will be reproduced
    directly from the machine in the form of layers.

The project therefore falls within the thematic scope of sustainable manufacturing, in the trajectory
the eco-sustainability of products and processes for new materials.
